Graeme Mead commentated Tiger Woods at the Huntly speedway. Had a beer with him after. And a few years later, helped arrange for a mate's dad who was facing cancer to walk six holes with Tiger in Melbourne. That is the kind of story that tells you everything about who Mintie is.

Episode 6 of ShedLife is a bit different. Jason is joined by KJ from Episode 2, and together they sit down with Graeme "Mintie" Mead for a wide-ranging conversation about sport, life, and the moments that stick with you.

Mintie is the voice behind the Chiefs, Waikato Rugby, and speedway in New Zealand. He has been calling sport in this region for a long time and has a few stories to go with it. The Tiger Woods one is the centrepiece of this episode and it is worth hearing in full. He talks through how it happened, what Tiger was like off camera, and how a random encounter at a Huntly speedway turned into something genuinely meaningful for a family going through a hard time.

The conversation goes well beyond sport though. Mintie talks about his father, the example of service and leadership he set, and where his own values around giving came from. His line is simple: if you do not give, how can you expect to receive. He talks about where that comes from and why he still lives by it.

There is also some good humour in there. He wanted to be a lawyer and ended up as a Datsun mechanic. There is the three Karens story about how he met his wife. Mintie has lived a full life and he tells it well.
